Pawns AU, Al is flesh again, Ed is retired, Winry's in love and Roy is in jail, and the Army wants to use all of them, willing or not, for a despicable purpose. Notes: After seeing a bunch of people on LJ raving about this fic, I finally read it. And, boy am I glad that I did! I love this fic! There are two pairings that I like, though they're not the main focus of the story. And the plot...Oooh! Very interesting and totally gripping. One of those 'can't put it down' type stories. It's a damn good fic. Read it. Now. ******

Complicated The Elric brothers were always together... Notes: I'm really liking this one, so far. It's an AU; Roy is Fuhrer and is working on his memoirs, much to Ed's annoyance. Reading Roy's writings is quite interesting, and the author's got a good grasp on characterization. I eagerly await the next chapter! *****

Notes: Though it's a bit dark, I really like this one. Not sure how plausible I think Ed doing that is, but I like the way he and Roy interacted in this one. It really rang true. ******

Interactions Arc The face of revelation was cruel and a gloved hand lovingly touched the spine of the book he was too tired to read. Notes: Another fic from Sockren. This author's work is beginning to grow on me. ^^ Their interaction was lovely, and the bit with Hawkeye near the end was just plain amusing. ******

Cigars and Puppy Dog Crushes A lost moment between Al and Martel. A confession, a promise and an understanding. Notes: This fic is so neat...the interaction is lovely; plus, Martel is just cool. ^^ The ending is quite sad, but only if you are privy to events that take place later in the anime/manga. Otherwise, I guess it's cute. ******

Rewrite Seven years later, Ed returns like a phoenix risen from the ashes only to find himself dragging those close to him into another desperate and obsessive quest. Post series, AUish, vaguely slashy Notes: Oooh, post series fic. And it's quite nice so far, too. Not a whole lot I can say without spoiling either the series or the fic, so I'll just say this: Go read it! ^_^ ******

Air Feeds Fire Based on something that must occur at some point in Ed's career. Notes: I almost didn't want to like this one, at first. Using hurt/comfort to start a relationship has never been a favorite of mine. But, I decided to finish reading this one, even when I realized that's what the author was doing. And I'm glad that I did. This fic is well written, and the interactions between Roy and Ed are lovely. ******

Two to Be
Steady How Roy and Hughes might have met and become friends. The starting thought was How did Roy get to be like that? Hughes seemed a reasonable answer. Notes: Nice pre-series piece; I really enjoyed seeing Roy's character change, and how Hughes and the others fell into place with him. Granted, I don't like Roy/Hughes as a pairing, but it was a fairly minor point in the story, and the fic was so nice otherwise, I don't mind too much. ^^ ******

Detour How to deny unpalatable truths without completely breaking the canon. Roy and Gracia discuss some difficult plans. Notes: Can you tell that I like Branch's work? ^^ An interesting way of getting around the events of episode 25...I can't really say any more without spoiling. ******

Circumstances What if it were suddenly in their contract for Roy and Ed to be lovers? And what would happen next? Warning: silly meta and egregious deus ex machina. Notes: It's a rare fic that can reference the fact that the cast members are characters in a story, and get away with it. This is such a fic. It's kind of odd, in that sense, but still quite good. Definitely worth the read. ******

The interactions between the characters, especially Roy, Ed, and Lust, are very interesting. And the little bits of information the author is gradually giving up really makes for a gripping read. The Right Thing Repercussions that just won't come haunt the Flame Alchemist. Notes: I love good Roy/Ed fic, and this definitely fits the bill. It deals nicely with potential problems that could arise at the start of their relationship...Both Roy and Ed are IC, and the author really tells her story well. ^_^ ****** Title:
The Adventures of Roy Mustang: Sex Ed Teacher Ed's not a prodigy in everything. Notes: Okay, this fic is just plain amusing. I love how she handles their relationship, and Ed's inexperience. It feels very real, and is just lovely. Also, she writes possibly the best Al that I've ever seen. *G* Really, this fic has it all. Humor that will have you falling out of your chair laughing. Fluffy bits that will could induce sugar shock with the sheer sweetness of them. Realistic angst (as opposed to angst-for-the-sake-of-angst). In short, it's an excellent read. ****** Title:

Communication Everyone needs Notes: I really liked Ed in this fic; his inexperience and awkwardness were very plausible, as was how he was reluctant to just talk to Roy about the problem...And I felt a bit sorry for Roy, actually. Poor guy didn't know what was up with Ed. =P ****** Title: Snow It was frozen outside, cold enough that the air ached as he drew it into his chest, and burned on his lips. Big Day Maes, usually so rational, is acting like nearly every other man in his position since time began. Notes: Yay, Roy-Hughes friendship fic! I absolutely love this kind of story...Roy and Hughes have such a lovely relationship, and this author captured it beautifully. |
